    Default fillacello???

I was looking at some pictures of a piece with fillacello designs in it and it blew my mind, so I was wondering if anyone could share any general insight on how such intricate and symmetrical geometric patterns are created.

I know you can make them by making a retticello, dont melt the lines in completely, then fill in the vacant spaces using stringers in whatever color combo........practice practice practice

Hold on one second, let me throw on my overalls and walk over to Billy Bob's glass shop right down the street. Believe me, if I could find someone in Alabama to teach me these techniques I would pay a lot of money to learn them. Until then I'll just find myself on the internet trying to pick up as much as I can...

What's a "fillacello"? A retticello where all the color is filled in?

If that's what it is, this is how I do it. . .

Take point (about 3-4 in long)
    Open BOTH ends.
Color one end with the background color (I've seen them rainbow, etc.), just straight lines along the tube, but make sure all the space is filled in.

On the other end of the tube, put your evenly spaced border-lines.

Heat the whole thing evenly and give it a nice even twist.

In the middle, where the color meets the border, jack it down until it's completely closed (both ends open!)

Blow the twisted border section into a bubble, remove the point handle, flare it open.

When it's flat like a foot, angle it facing upwards and blast it with heat, starting in the center (this will keep you from trapping air bubbles). Work it from the center outwards.

Pick off the funky area where the border half and the fill half actually met.

But if that's not what you mean, I got no clue. . .

Yeh that would make sense - fillacello, like fill-a-retticello minus the retti. Thanks for the reply though, it sounds like a sick technique.

Here's a video of el HEFE doing a retticello.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QZJsgQXehI

After you have your first set of lines on, half twist the tube from one end of the lines to the other then lay another set of lines just as you did the first set keeping them parallel with one and other aligning the ends of straight lines to the curved.

I hope you get what I mean from checking the video. Spin the tube back the opposite direction of what you did the initial twist in a quarter turn. You should have a retti pattern going up the tube. Either split the clear sections to color or fill them all in at once. Make sure to keep a real thin layer on the color you fill in otherwise they'll implode and wont look right once you flip the disk.

    I hope this helps!
