Wil / I thought we were friends - I kept calling back because I thought we were getting disconnected ??
anyway - You were paid well for coming to the show and I thought we were good when you left - These online testimonials are the first we are hearing that your camp was unhappy. We spoke to Bob and Marie and they were completely happy with their trip ( except the loud music in the booth next door )
anyway - you have my number - call me anytime to discuss - We definately need all of the pointers we can get - Its still a new show !

The CK show was a success and we are well on the way to a sold out show in Santa Monica - The show focuses on art and we have three of the hottest Graf Painters doing an art battle ! This is gonna be off the charts ! - There is also a Flameoff planned - If anyone wants to get involved and be on the staff please e mail us at

What do you mean by success? If anything this show completely turned me off to making pipes for a living knowing at one point or another is have to deal with shows like that

Success = lots of incredible artists - lots of great buyers !
The show was free to visitors -
did you attend ?
Oh - you must be in Dennis's class -
there were a bunch of volunteers from Salem CC - You guys were great ! - and it was really cool to have the World's Greatest Flameworker at the gig - Joe Luisi
Hey my advice to any young artist interlaced with a bit of history and self promotion ! -
Any trade show is tough on not only the buyers that have to walk the show but to the vendors who bring their product all the way out and pay big bucks to show everything off ! - Even though they are a drain on people physically they actually are a good forum for people with like minds and interests to share ideas and grow the artwork. Way back in the old days ( early nineties ) there was only one show - It was at the Alexis Park Hotel in Vegas - People just got rooms there and left their doors open - There was a massive tradeshow across the street called ASD - there were allot of buyers that came across the street and shopped at the show at Alexis Park - Dont forget that at this point there was barely any glass - especially color changing glass - the show was called the CTA show Contemporary Tobacco Association - This show grew and finally broke out into a full fledged tradeshow and some of the vendors started the CHAMPS show - They were interested in keeping out the massive amount of imports that were infiltrating - The show was now at a variety of hotels / casinos across Las Vegas and finally ended up at the Convention Center -
My take on all of this was that the magic of the show to me was the bonding experience that we had with all of the other artists at the show also the buyers that came and purchased kept us rolling until the next show - It was a very small tight knit deal back then -
At this point I believe that we need a show that travels to really cool cities that will allow us to gather and share ideas / engage in forums that excite the industry - and the industry that I am referring to crosses way more boundaries than just glass - This show that we strive for is to bring a number of artists in different mediums together in one forum to share and grow the medium in unimaginable ways ! That was just the very first show that the Connoisseur Kulture did and there are two more planned - its all about working together as a group instead of individually attacking one another -
I dont recommend overextending yourself by any means - go to shows that will inspire you and help your flow -

edited because I was stirring the pot...
We have way to many "novelty" centered shows that promote products we don't all agree with....
It is each persons right to choose which show platform they vend their products.
As for me, see yall next year at DFO, AGE and Glass Roots where glass is the focus.
Happy Holidays!

Right on Boxfan -
I agree - All of those mentioned shows are excellent ! - I was stoked to attend every single one of them and they provide incredible inspiration for the glass community - I would also strongly recommend Spannabis / an incredible show in Spain - off the Chain !
I also wanted to personally thank you for coming all of the way out to the CK show in Atlantic City and making all of those incredible skulls - We have been letting everyone know to go get them at Dragons Breath ! As a matter of fact we had a few celebrities call DB and order
Also had a great time writing one of the Feature Articles in the current issue of the Flow Magazine -
We have been pumping you guys up big time on Sunday Nights - www.sundaynitestu.com
! - Stoked -
And be sure that there will definitely be NO SPICE AT ANY CK SHOWS in the future -
I disagree with that because I know tons of people who use "salts" or "spice" and no other kind of drug...only because it's legal and they can and/or think that it's all right to because it's legal...
if I went and there were tons of spice vendors there... I would probably leave and dissociate myself from that crowd...
I'm not trying to stir any pots but change only happens with us...we can't expect the problem to just go away or say it's bad but slide it under the rug... if you really hate spice and salts then start taking pro active choices and actions to remove them from our existence
I'm just sayin...

^Wow.
That brings back some memories.
Lame memories.
Again, all of these reasons are why I decided to spend my money on internal infrastructure.
I was wondering if this was a good decision.
After this and hearing my friends experiences at all the shows in the last 6+ months.
I'm so glad I decided to focus on my business and not give my money to sit at a booth for a couple days.

I was at the CK show this year. I was also at Champs, AGE, Glassroots and the Champs one in AC this spring. 6 months ago was the first time I saw the bath salts and they are hilarious. they are a freakin joke. Personally I'd prefer they were not at the shows but thats the deal, Along with the strippers ("models") and the rest of the scene. We absolutely need to get organized and take further action on a trade organization but lets keep it real.
For those that are bent about their glasswork not being sold in galleries you are going to the wrong shows for that. Be honest about what you make and where it will be displayed. "Gallery" art is at the baltimore and philly shows, SOFA, Smithsonian and others. I am happy and proud to be making pipes and will miss the scene we have now when it comes to pass. Seeing Slingers film in AC was an absolute highlight for me and made me so happy to be here now doing what I am doing with the rest of you. The talk in WI reinforced this feeling and back to the OP about keeping our industry safe the way we do this is by working together & hiring lawyers.... The grav lab dude seemed to have things dialed in on an organization, where is he? I put my name on the list, haven't heard a thing... honestly people weren't that nice to him but i understand the apprehension.
AND back to the CK show, It was not my worst show in terms of sales and I will absolutely do shows with Jason in the future. He is a natural promoter and I disagree with Will, he is one of us . Without going too deep here Jason is probably the most sensitive to the dangers surrounding our scene and the promoter I would trust the most. (I do like Nick and Ellen though....) It was a first year show, there were bound to be bumps but I had a great time. Without sounding like too much of a hippy here we need to get serious about getting organized and show a little more love. -rob elite
are you sure you were at dfo? i've been the coordinator for the last three years and i've heard nobody mention seeing you. i would think you would have at least checked in with your old business partners that were there. it just seems like the kind of thing somebody would have brought to my attention...![]()
some love you and some can't abide your presence but pretty much everybody in my town has an opinion about you. doubt you could have played ninja lol.
