    Default Firefly?

No, not the kick ass television show that was cancelled well before it's time.

    No, the music festival.

It's in my backyard. It's maybe a mile tops from my house. Good lord, all those people, all that money, all that action..... it's the opposite of lame ass f'ng NASCAR finally.

So I've started asking around town, the Dover Art League, my retired old lady crafter friends on FB, nothing. I've got a bunch of huhs? whats?... Talking about trying to get involved in someway yields "wow that's a good idea Wayne." Something awesome is coming to Dover and no one seems to care.

Does anyone have any inside info? Is anyone going? Vending? Any contact info? Will there be a "Shakedown St."? What is it like running around a giant rock fest campground with a backpack full of glass? (I can walk there easily)

So far some of my shady jobless local customers are all about trying to "help me out", and that's all the interest I've found locally. It's a massive money making/exposure opportunity for me and I have no idea what to do. I'd love to see the local Dover Art League involved but alas, I said I wasn't ready to be a board member yet, so it's still the old lady watercolor club. Haven't really spoken with the Downtown Dover Partnership yet....but I'd think they'd be in contact with the art league.

I also have not contacted the festival yet either. They list "partenrships for sponsors" on the website and nothing about simple vending. I assume it's astronomically expensive to get in officially. Plus would my "wares" even be allowed in officially without the needed tobacco sales licensing? I only have a "retialer, various products" license since I don't have a store front. Shit, we all know that pendants and humming bird feeders ain't gonna fly of the shelves like my pipes will.

Sigh. Am I too old to wander around the campground hocking my glass.... am I too old and wary to trust some loser kids with my inventory? What the heck is a modern music fest like anyway?

I'll gladly take any help/conjecture/advice/derision that ya'll can send my way.

I would just contact the fest, ask how much vending is....they pretty much have to have it. Ask about pipes, if you dont like their answers sell um out of your back pack.

Nah dude, you're never too old. You should grow a wild beard and run around with a backpack of onies. It sounds like a great adventure!

sounds like my last summer. something cool was coming to BFE, for once, i got excited, paid way too much for a vending spot only to have a bunch of slack jawed empty wallet hippies gawk at my swag for days. had some lizard looking kid try hocking my stuff for 10% and all he did was leave them in his tent and do drugs.

i HOPE this doesnt help...but this is what i come to expect of "new festivals" in towns that dont generally get much of this sort of attention.

    Black Keys? JACK WHITE??

That's not a fesival for empty-walleted people in my pov.

Walk around the camp sites, duck and hide, do your best!

There is a lot of money involved in that kind of festivals here in Europe, there's gonna be a fence, there's gonna be security...

But maybe there's also gonna be some chaos like a mad traffic jam, a thunderstorm, way way toooo many peaople coming... That's your chance!

I wouldn't bet on legit vending space, lot of competition (and they ar e well organized over here-professional hippies!!) and it costs a fortune to get in!

    Best of luck from Germany

Thanks everyone. I already have the live at your moms house-no career-30 somethings who wanna try to hock my shit. They've got stars in thier eyes and think they'll churn huge profit selling my glass. If I sell a $25 spoon for $40 because I made it, I can talk about technique etc. It's a good profit over wholesale. If some kid who's like "yeah bro... local glass bro.." He'll get chipped down to probably $30 or so.... not a lot of money for all your work. Plus you gotta push that stuff and watch peoples faces....get that sale.

I'll be delivering to one of my bigger guys soon with a 6 store empire and maybe he'll be my ticket in. It is a little sketchy for me to do the whole gorilla sales thing. Convincing my wife is going to be the hard part.

I'm not sure about a fence though. The festival is at the casino/NASCAR track and there is a huge....huge...huge outdoor set of multiple parking lots. NASCAR brings about a 120K people twice a year and they never put up fences around the lots. One of the "made it" moves for local bands is to get the spot to play at the NASCAR lot for the fans.

I think it would just be wicked cool if there was a way to support other local artists as well as blow glass all day and sell my shit.

We'll see. I'm so out of the loop with this kinda stuff. The few Dead shows I did were great. Just walk over to where the action was and setup. The cops walked past and only cared about the guys filling balloons out of the back of thier cars.

The local thought is that 30-40K poeple are going to show up but I think Dover is wrong. I think it's going to be way bigger and crazier than they think.

    Thanks
