This is correct. The stem/perc should be open, your can closed. After closing the bottom of the can you will then pop open the hole to weld your joint at an appropriate time.

sorry I haven't posted in a few days, but A.I. pretty much cleared everything up. The hole in the shoulder for the downstem should be popped after attaching the downstem to the inside of the can. I gotta do a second attempt the correct way with the downstem tech. I have a bunch of half blood coiled up into two pods I might make a lil rig with. For some reason I'm way more nervous about this one than the one I did with that import tubing.

How does one make that pattern, if you don't mind me asking? I tried what I thought it was and it didn't come out anything like that.

9 inch tall mini tube, made with irrid and purple amethyst. 14mm female joint, and a 3 hole fixed downstem.

6 inch tall haterade and blue dream jammer. 14mm female, 5 hole diffy fixed to the bottom of the can. Unfortunately got the neck too hot before I bent it and the can cracked while doing the downstem, I healed it but theres a massive scar on the other side.

sorry about your cracking issues but regardless, when bending a neck, use a nice soft bushy flame, try not to heat the center much, and bend slowly, after you let it cool. you will get a nice arc that way.
