I was just commenting on how cool his torch is!

Trust me after 4-6 years of critique in art school with mean artists you could not handle my blog!

this is your post, cut and pasted:
Well I have not had a drink in 2 years. So cups are not a priority.
But I get asked to make cups for Jewish ceremonies at temple. I have made a few also.

Actually I found on ancestry.com I'm really half English and Irish.

that is in fact blog material, and seeing it in "fresh out of the kiln" is fucking annoying.

This is a couple days old, but maybe it will encourage people to STFU and just post pics. Perhaps a mod could limit the posting privileges of people who are unable to adhere to the (clearly) stated purpose of this thread?

Got my first request for scientific repair/modification. Turned a busted soxhlet into a shunted soxhlet. Happy with the wall weight, not thrilled with the cosmetics, but the glass was so thin in the first place I'm taking it as a win. This type of apparatus was favored by Sasha Shulgin for certain ochem applications.

Dude chill! I am going to limit my posts to strictly critique and pics of my work. I will skip taking them today though. I am waiting until I am done with enitre order so nothing repeats. Peace.

Yeah just the look, no magical pawn function. If one squints hard enough, the shaping may resemble a pawn from a chess set?

Thats ridiculous. If you are here to see pics, and even more selectively if you don't like nomad posts, first just scroll through to pics, and or second, just scroll past all posts made by nomad without reading the content. all you need to do is read his name then skip it.
    you will shank me later

@Oneiros - That Soxhlet repair is pretty cool...but you don't want the return posisitioned like that. I haven't used your soxhlet...but i am guessing that if you run it like that, the solvent won't stay in the chamber for an extended period of time, it will automatically return to the boiling flask. That is way less than ideal because the time that the solvent sits in the middle chamber is directly related to the yield %. If you were going to run it forever it wouldn't matter as much, but the efficiency will be super low, so extracting a good yield will take a long time.

The siphon (return arm) is supposed to go from where it is...vertical, as high as you can get it without it being equal to, or higher than the top of the bypass seal (because that will also make it fail to function), then it should curve back down. You want to blow a little bubble right where the break is as well, and that will give you the volume you need in the siphon to make your solvent stay in the middle chamber until it reaches the bend in the siphon (which is why you want it to be as high as it can be without reaching the bypass arm...it increases the effeciency of your extraction), at which point capilary action sucks all of the solvent out via the siphon, and into the flask. I'll post a pic of one I've made so you can see what I mean. Thinking about all of this...i did a report on the history/function/fabrication of Soxhlets...I should post it here.

This pic makes it kind of hard to see the shape of the siphon arm...but if you look at all of them, you can kind of make it out. If it's hard to see, let me know. Also, if my explination of why it's like that/placed there doesn't make sense...let me know and ill write a little more verbosely.

I appreciate the commentary, and had this been purely an attempt at repair, you would be correct. However, there's a reason I explicitly referred to the apparatus as a "shunted soxhlet" As I noted in my post, this was a custom/repair for a chemist. This particular soxhlet isn't intended to maximize the solvent time in the thimble/in contact with the material, quite the opposite.

The shunted soxhlet has applications...most notably in the realm of certain syntheses that contributed to Dr. Shulgin's fame/infamy. I'm not going to say more than that out of a desire to stay within the board rules and to avoid derailing this thread without adding pics. That said, I do appreciate the input and would appreciate additional critique in the future if you notice something as apparently egregious

then take your own advice for fucks sake. you posting this, just so you can be in the cool crowd, you scolded me, instead of just shutting up and posting a pic. i'd say you have the same issues, if not worse.

These are nice. How did you learn to make this?

I could use a new design that is high paying.
I have nothing to do with oil but a friend of mine loves it. He's like a millionaire now so he buys expensive pipes like that. I got to use one once.
