Thanks, I hope to do more, just depends on free time, maybe one a day if I can, although I have to say I feel I am only qualified to give info or tutorial on a few things. Although I suppose you dont have to be an expert to just write a blurb or two on something and let more people add to it, eh...

So what exactly are rep points ? what are they for ?

I assume its ok though to make an external link to a wikipedia page ?

yeah we should be ok with that. as far as taking stuff from the wikipedia tho i think we'd need permission for that. i'm not positive but just to be safe, let's write our own. we know more about it then they do anyway right!

rep points get you promotions around here for various things. you earn them by making helpful posts. you can see in your user cp if someone has left you a rep point. rep from admin is worth i think 10 points and 1-2 from members.

You can add pictures yet? i still havnt figured it out....

and if you see something wrong then fix it thats the fun of wiki.... to delete something takes a vote of people and or admin control if i rember right but all of it is logged so we can roll it back etc...wikis have alot of development behind them and dealing with people that malicously deal with content.

yea editing is pretty easy ....

I just have one question; in Primio's opening post at the start of this thread, there is a list of content.

Is there a front page on the Wiki thang, like a table of contents? I've seen it on another site that uses the facility, like the Arrsepedia at http://www.arrse.co.uk/wiki/Main_Page

...or how do I find content, there must be a link I haven't noticed as yet?

I dont want to get off topic, but I have a Phantom and I never heard of always keeping the center fire cracked open a bit, I just open it up when I want a pin point flame. Should I be keeping it cracked ?

As a former copy editor, I'm going to try and be the grammar/spelling fixer

I've pimped the page on the Austin Fireflies web page, hopefully we'll get a few more users.

Pryo, there's nothing on the main page that explains what the hell GLDG is, and it would look better if you removed the install message regarding Mediawiki. I'd do it myself, but that's the one page that can't be community edited

On the left side, the Random Page link is broken.

BTW, we already have some idiots messing up pages, be prepared to aggresively ban IPs.

How do you view the index of topics? The only way I was able to find topics was to look at the "recent changes" page. Maybe I'm just dense?

Traditionally, there is no "index" page because it would be crazy large. Use the 'search' feature -- if there is no page like you want, it will let you create one.

I'll create the stub of an index page, and maybe we can get it linked from the front page...

edit:

Ok, Pyro, if you could add a link to [[index]] on the main page, that will help get people started.
Also, please update the link 'Editing Help' at the bottom of a generic edit page to point to the Wikipedia article on how to edit a page to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiped...to_edit_a_page

@loydb, I got rid of the installation message. For some reason I couldn't edit that part earlier...

Also, I wanted to let you guys know that there's some new tags available for use that ought to make cross-linking around here a bit easier:

To create a link to a Wikipedia article, enclose it in a [wp] (and corresponding closing) tag, such as the Wikipedia entry on Glassblowing.

To create a link to our internal Wiki, use the [wiki] (and again, corresponding closing) tag. This is another opportunity for me to link to Dwaine.

a) serious knowledge base for glass people around the world
b) a silly wiki with goofy entries (e.g. Great White, etc.)
c) both

Personally, I think trying to do both is a mistake -- people looking for glass info shouldn't have to wade through moronic links. But maybe that's what you're going for...
