bounding graphite to wood or, metal...???

well, this is my bit of fun... i used epoxy on my home made L marver and when it gets hot, it stinks like hell... it doesn't take much and before long, it's time to chip off the remaining epoxy and re-apply it again...

with my new project, i wanted to start out on the right foot... i went with JB Weld...
my question is this, am i going to have this same problem with the jb weld...???

if this solves the issues for my home made hot glass press, than the marver will get a make over, very soon...lol...

I like to pre drill with a counter sink and screw it together. I used jb weld on the exhaust pipe of my older 4wheeler recently and it seems to be holding up to the heat. I haven't noticed any fumes but when your flyin thru the woods you wouldn't notice anyway.
I have used hi-temp rtv on some projects in the glass shop and that worked and it's still holding. The orange kind sold as rtv (gasket maker) in the auto parts store.

I still don't see it standing up.I watch my entire paddle glow Bright red from marvering large bubbles or solid glass!! like the same guy said above counter sink and screw togerther.

i have bought a few tools that have the graphite drilled and a little steel post screwed into it. then the post is screwed into a wooden dowel. when the paddle gets too hot the handle starts burning, and eventually burns out the threads and you have a loose tool. now i buy aluminum rod stock, and those little steel thread inserts to modify the tools. the heat dissipates down a 4 inch section of the aluminum, so not nearly as much heat goes into the wooden handle. its much cheaper and they work great for me

counter sink and screw togerther. And If you want some some added stability and want some thing to act as a glue to keep every thing tight, I use refactory cement along with screws and It seems to hold up well and certinly hos up to the heat.

Make a bracket out of small angle iron, or some channeling, and screw it together. I can't see so much as considering any kind of epoxy or JB weld. Even if your ventilation is completely on point, why risk exposure?

thank you very much... this is the stuff that i've been looking for and
just didn't know what to call it...

by the way, the jb weld did great on it's first time out... i know but,
i made this thread, after the fact... i was looking for a solution to a
foreseen problem and an existing problem, at the same time...

my camera really sucks but, i'll try to get some pix up later today...

thanks smuty... my little L marver is made from some thin graphite and
it was cut from a 12"x12" pad that i got from ABR as part of the advanced
tool package i bought in the beginning of my glass work... i need to rework
it or replace it but, money's tight with the new phantom and no new renter
to fill the long standing vacancy...

(side bar) i have a furnished room for rent... $420 a month or $120...

I have used jb weld(manufactured an hour from my house,Sulphur Springs, Tx, yeehaw) always worked good for me, neve noticed any fumes, never broke loose。 Thanks for hook up David. I am in Japan right now with Keith> He says hello and wish you were here with us> Big fun.

I used JB Weld on all the tools I manufactured and never once got a complaint. I have tools that are 6 years old that I made with JB Weld and I am having no problems. JB will hold.

at this point, the jb is working very well...

here is a link to a short video of my get-toe hot glass press...

it will press the hell out of hot glass and i have less than $30 into it at this point...

i don't think i could have bought a knuckle burning hand press for that...
