Mike, it's Granite of some sort. I liberated a piece from a stone yard in Knoxville, TN, years ago. It's a complete sphere, beautifully polished, much better in hand. It started as a huge chunk of rock, I bashed around on it with hammers for a bit, then to the lap wheel, the a rough round in the sphere machine. I tried to dremel out the setting for the murrine, next time I'll use a diamond bit.. or mixing bullseye frit with epoxy to create a nice border, or.. on and on are the possibilities, as it is with everything glass people do. Not worrying about compatibility in the finished piece is really nice

Especially since I think I remember you saying you had a longboard, which is all I can stand up on. You guys are such nice folks, and have such a great thing going.. we'd love to make it down there and meet you. I think you are doing outstanding work, and doing it right :-)
