Although I'm always developing my skills, I'm far from being a glass bad-ass.

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Been lurking for a while....thought it was time I introduced myself.
names bill, live in central FL. I'm a full time metalsmith, doing ornamental metalwork. Everything from "fine jewelry to house jewelry". Been playing with hot glass for a while but getting much more serious since I found this site...........THIS PLACE ROX.Fwiw, started out with soft glass (beads, jewelry and core vessels) but have been sculpting with boro only for the last 6 months or so. Hope to be able to share as I learn more.

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
My name's Daryl, AKA MonkadelicD. I apprenticed for 6 months under a pipemaker working with Boro in a shop up in NH a few years ago. I moved down here South of Fort Worth last summer and I've been having the itch to get back into flameworking.
I'm looking for a studio that I can either rent a torch they already have set up or somewhere that has space I use if I buy a torch and all the equipment.
I've found only one place that advertises renting bench space by the hour in Grapevine called Vetro Art Glass. Its a decent place but its $20/hr so I'm hoping I can find something cheaper or at least by the month to be a little cheaper maybe in the <$500 range. I guess I could just build a temporary bench to use at my Dad's house but I'd rather not clutter up his place.
If anyone knows of a place I could do some getting-back-into-the-groove at let me know.

Hey Daryl - welcome to the group - this is a terrific forum filled with many kind and gentle spirits who never use the f-word...
...
All kidding aside, welcome, and hang in there - you WILL get your torch going...it's just a matter of time.
peace,

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hello fello lava lovers.
Russell here. Newb to glass work. Been working with soft glass and a single flame torch for a few weeks and lookin to get a proper setup going for boro glasss so I came here for the info. Love the forum so far. I have spent a few years welding and lampwork seems to be one of the closer relatives to welding than other hobbies. Anything molten gets me goin so I cant wait to start espessing my creative side with glass instead of these huge metal sculptures I have been workin on for the past few years.

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hello, my name is Chris, also known as Lucky. I live in Chicago, first time working with glass was a 2 month beginning hotshop class at Penland in the fall of 08. While there I met Julz, and she got a few of us to come to her house for a week long lampworking class in december, giving me my first experience on a torch. When I got back home I set up a studio of my own. I'm actually writing this from her house, I got 2 weeks left in my 2 month long apprenticeship with her. Before I found glass, I had been into photography for around 5 years, drawing and painting, pottery... glass is unlike anything I've worked with, I cant wait to see where it takes me.
