can someone explain tube pulling to me i think i am doing it wrin

i encase with color then with clear then i heat the whole thing up and pull, but the inner diameter is always too small and i dont get enough length of tubing from the pull, i want to have some coloured tubing i can wig and spiral up, so i can make katchin sets

it sucks encasing for each thing a new tube

    kind regards frank

what happens if you use tubes with a thinner wall or thinner color rods ?

You take a tube with an large diameter, put on the inside of the tube color stripes and over the color stripes another layer of clear glas? Why another layer of clear glas ?

Yeah I was gonna ask the same thing.

For stick stacks I'm using out the 25.4 x 4 as the inner tube. I find that after the pull, the inner clear wall is chunky.

I got some thinner wall 25 coming in for use as the inner tube.

Just saying, so you have an idea when you get set up for tube pulls... :o)

and did I mention I love pulling tube.

idk. i lay color on the outside, and encase with clear afterwards then melt it al in and pull, sounds easy hahaha

it depends, i have 25X4 and 22X3 i think , i also tried 9.5 laying the whole rod on it and encasing with 8mm clear to pull a tiny tube, that worked kinda good, i got like 7cm useable tube from 3cm encased tube

do you think i should go bigger?

man 25X4 for the inner tube....i hve not tried stck stacking yet cause it seems when not done right all the colored rods are wasted

maybe i should encase 22X3 or something i have layin around

and i have some more questions before i try a new attempt

i encase with color then with clear(8mm/12mm??), then i heat up the whole thing and stretch it down/pull it down

i have a blowhose do i need to shut it with my tung do i have to blow in or suck??
or do i have to pull it in sections like the first quarter thenthe second then the third....?

arr i wanna make my own colored tubes now

...after pulling seperate it(doesnt fit into my kiln) and the anneal it?
    kind regards frank

but i knew i had to go bigger, i just was afraid of it

i do it like you do frank, i take tubing and stripe color rods on it, then coat it with tenmm clear rod. i used 26 x 4 a lot, but i find it doesnt give that many lines maximum, so i am using 32 x 4 more often now. i take a section about 4-6 inches, and after striping it with everything i melt it all in at once, then when its soft i pull it vertically, flipping ends to get the heat where its needed more. then i go to t a much narrower flame, and work the ends out. after i got them stretched as ,much as possibles, i either jack line it and snap off the messy ends, or flame cut em, then i have a chunk of good tube that prolly wont crack, as its all melted in well. there is a tube pull video or 2 out there...

I also meant to say the reason I wanna use a thinner wall inner tube is that the terminations I get right now have too much clear in the centre.

Sometimes it leaves a clear dot in the centre if I don't work it right.

There's some great threads on here under stickstacks, vaccuum pulls, &c...

hi heres couple new stuff from my shed

i did my first tube pull(i had only some crayons in stock so i used amber purple all the way around the tube) i encased 25X4 with ap and the with 8mm clear, heated the whole thing up and pulled it down

to my surprise it worked pretty good(gotta fix the ends to get more tube out of it) so i could make 3 slides and a marble out of it

usually i only encase as much tube as i am using for the current slide, dish, whatever

but i think ill see me standing in my garage pulling only tubes and doing this prepwork(balling them ud wig wagging them etc), i thought its kinda boring but it was very cool doing it yesterday, very entertaining, my girlfriend said i got glowing eyes when i was done working

    so heres the pics

i hope you like it i tried welding two sections together(i/o frit and honeycomb) and switched the axis and attached a ground joint and pushed the bowl...i think i can do it better i dont get the desired cool effekt with the amazon night fine frit...so that one goes to my private horror collection where i hide all the stuff wich is trash in my eyes haha

    kind regards frank

i used for the three slides and the marble amber purple and did a tube pull with it the little horns are ap unencased the big horn is jet black(i encased 12mm clear with it)

for the wonky double section slide with the bridge i used amazon night fine frit inside out and on the other side i made a coilpot with moss and dotted it with spring luster and the springluster with clear, it did not came out as i expected so this one should go into my private collection of horrifying things that gone wrong haha

next time ill use dap maybe ill get a really deep purple with it, or i use purple luster from ga seemst to be the same or at least kinda the same

    kind regards frank
