most oil rig stuff is small. it just looks big in the pictures. there is some 18 out there but 14 is the standard it seems
18mm
14mm
What is the most preferred, or is there a standard size for GOG fittings for oil domes? They don't seem to exist in my neck of the woods, so can't just go on down to the store and look (I tried that already)
My guess would be 18mm so a nail would fit easier, but I just don't know. In the dark on the oil accessories.
Thanks!

I know what you mean, it's difficult being isolated. I'm glad there's a decent store in town now so I can go check out work like that in person.
hmmm...I've never seen a 14mm dome (in person,) But then again, I'm in Ohio, all 18 here.
@B.RY_glass
I have been told that 18 is standard, because people like the 7mm nail better than the 5mm. I see both sizes about equally though.
I've got an account there, posted maybe two, three times, never really go on that site.
well, it is dome central, i am sure they have a good ability to give you a consumer consensus on the sizes used. maybe someone here knows too, but over there there are tons of users as opposed to just a few makers here.
i can tell you personally i get about 75% of my female curve orders at least for 14mm, and 20 to 25% for 18mm. not domes, but dome replacements, so it does reflect the amount of each size of domes used too.
I make exclusively 14mm domes. Ill make bigger ones on request, but I have no problems selling all my stuff with only a 14mm dome. I always thought they were easier to get apart when stuck together as well. Less surface area.
i use 14m on the domes i make..or some do 14 to 18.. or just straight 18.. theres really no right answer everyone is gonna have a different piece so i just make them all.. right now all i do is 14mm cause thats all i stocked up on this time

In regards to globes, I'd have to say 18s are more popular but I still sell a good amount of 14s. On the birdhouse domes, I have never gotten any requests for 18s, always 14s. On my last dist order for rigs, they requested 10 size 18 rigs and only 4 size 14 rigs.
Edit/Add: And on my last dist order before that. They order 50 size 18 nails and only 20 size 14 nails. So, I'd say both are used but 18 seems to be more popular.
I do them on 18's more flow right? Done em on 14 too tho so yea...

More flow is questionable depending on the joint, and the piece it's going on. Most nails also work better on thinner joints. At least that's my experience.
