Valiant attempt! Get your fundamentals down before going bigger and you will be MUCH happier with your results^^.
For your first try and second pipe you should be happy you had anything that didn't end up in the crackoff bucket.
Laugh hard, it's a long way to the bank.

I tried my first shirly 8 or 9 months after getting my torch.
It was ugly
but thats how some of us learn to swim
Miniutman,You like me prefer the deep end and not the kiddi pool
...its an attempt, theres a carb, a bowl, a mouthpiece...so its got that going for it...why not show ur first 10 considering this was prolly 10 min tops worth of work...i will now present you with my first attempt at a haiku:
melt more glass post less
work for hours not just minutes
dish and dab probly next
good to try new things...but the best question would be for yourself...what do you think about it?
~melt split open and melt~

Fizzle: great, but i'm not sure it's in the strict limits of a Haiku:-)) thx for the great post anyway!
Minute: be true to yourself and decide wether that piece is worth showing or not. It functions, no doubt. And I feel the pride you feel about finishing your first sherlock. I have never done one in 13 years of flaming, so my opinion is just general.
You don't seem to post too much, very good!
Hey thanks for all the replys and views. I had to laugh at a few of them...lol. Hey I don't care what it looks like now. It's just the fact that I made it. To me it's worth posting, cause in a few months, or years more likely, it will be great to look back and compare to what I started at. Did I fail to mention that is the second thing I have ever sit down at the torch and even made, ever. Second time I have even had my torch on. Second time I have even had glass in my hands. I have read the first two volumes of Contemporary Lampworking, 3rd editions, before I even started looking at getting a torch. AND hours of reading online and watching videos on u tube. So yeah I'm proud of it...lol. It can only get better from here, right?
You got attitude!
I suggest to get down the basics first though and not show all of the steps you take in your progression. Keep them for yourself, I hbarely have any pics of my beginning and I really regret it sometimes. Had that nihilistc approach that nothing really matters but the process itself.
Actually that piece is great for your skill level, but still: is it worth showing? It definetly has a place in you, but I think the world does not need to know about everything thT is going on in your shop.
Don't get me wrong, just keep on practicing.
I got ya...lol! I'm too old to have anything other than a good attitude. Can't wait to get home to practice now. Thanks for the suggestions and insight.
