Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Wow those look super nice. I've only tried an opposing spiral once, but every time I do a vortex it feels like I jsut wanna bust another one out. Great job man!

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Thanks faded I think I got them figured out.
rvp117, lol yeah I think on one of them I twisted the same direction and the other I don't know what happened. I'm going to keep trying them till I get it. Your last couple pendants you made are really nice I like em' alot.

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Here's another pendant I just got done with. I went a little out of my comfort zone on this big beast of a pendant. I guess I need to keep everything small till I get my kiln it cracked in half during the cooling. I don't think I did to bad for my first big honeycomb pendant like this. It's wonky and a little ugly but I completed it and I'm happy with that.

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
You really can't push it above 2" without some thermal shock and cracking issues. Fiber blankets and a bucket of vermiculite are your best friends right now.

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Thanks Tiberius sad day's indeed, It didn't turn out to bad I'm going to super glue it together and hang it from my rear view mirror.
I got a fiber blanket but it's starting to fall apart like a mofo, something's make it in it some don't. It's all good my kiln should be done here later this week or the next. I'll just keep everything small till then. I've been dreaming about making that pendant for the past two day's it was driving me crazy so I tried it and for the most part it was success.

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
After about all night of practicing over and over I finally started getting the opposing spiral to come out
. This is my best one all the purple's, red's, and green's didn't come out in the pic.

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
The last pendant is tight. One of my bead store ladies told me that pendants sell best for her when they average the size of a quarter.

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Hey man, fill up a case of those and take them to the bead store!!
Your pendants are telling me that they want to help pay for your next bottle of O2

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Those pendants look good.
Watch out for having dirty (used) utilities (pieces) in the background of your picts though like in the honeycomb pic #2.
The colors are real nice and the only advise I would say is try to get your terminations even cleaner. You really want to try and pull the end of your design or spirals to as thin and clean of a point as possible. That way when it re-condenses there isn't a blob of color or a clear spot in the middle of the piece. Everything looks really great though so keep up the good work!
When I melt my termination back down I kinda keep the heat away from the tip I pulled off and let the heat from the mass of the pendant or marble or pipe or whatever it is slowly melt and round the tip out. Especially boily colors does this become important.

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Thanks gambit , my bad I didn't see that in the background till you said something I couldn't find the edit button so I just deleted the pic from image shack. I try to be pretty vigilante about keeping anything like that out of my pic's it was a honest mistake it won't happen again.
I've been working on getting my terminations cleaner. I started doing it just the way you said a couple day's ago and they are coming out pretty clean the more I practice them the better they get. Here's a marble from a couple day's ago let me know if this is any better.

I do have a question for anyone that can answer it now when I am making these spirals or the opposing spirals or any pendant for that matter. when I cold punty up to the side with my work on it to make the lens. After I melt the lens down and go to remove my cold seal it just about always breaks off my work with the punty and leaves a clear circle where the punty was. So my question is how do I avoid this do I add a layer of clear or color backing before I add my punty so when I remove my punty it's not attached to the actual work or are my punty's not being attached correctly and I need to work on them any insight will be great. My guess would be to add a backer but I'm a newb so what do I know.
Thanks
Levi

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
You'll either leave a bit of punty or take a chip off typically. You can do what's called a "ghost punty" or "ninja punty". When you are about to tag your cold punty on blow on it real quick. It makes it want to come off a lot easier, but will hardly leave a mark at all.

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
On this one did you just fume it then dot some clear and red on and melt it in, or what was your technique?:
