Both are fantastic kilns and should last forever if taken care of.

Can't comment on the Glass Hive, but I'm very happy with the Skutt I use and strongly recommend

    paragon f- 240.

ive seen a few scarabs that deteriorated rather quickly.a 240 is much deeper. i prefer their door mechanism over any other company, much sturdier feeling. they also draw less power then a scarab, and have handles for easy moving.

    paragon for life.

an f 200 is alot of kiln for the price too.

i saw a van with bufo on it at glas craft today you in eugene, buyin up mass color?

Agree with Wilbur...plus for 500 more you could get the F500 and nearly be double the space!

for the most part i feel you get what you pay for. Scarabs are more than paragons, paragons are more than hives. I have worked in a small aim ls-d 99 forever and have had no complaints. I recently bought a reg scarab and it is fantastic. I use the small aim on prep days, scarab on assembly days. some people have some gripes about the depth but soon realize you really dont need it on a day to day work space. In the same time we have had a couple of paragon f500 and yes as far as size they were great but seemed to fall apart quickly. The controller on the scarab couldn't be any easier to manage and program. The price might be right on the hives but seem to be more for beader's, not piper's.

you get what you pay for, but the glass hive kilns are as high quality as the rest. However waiting for the kilns to be built with inaccurate details following them up kind of blows

Marcel has worked hard with the engineers at Skutt over the years to make kilns that really fit our needs. They're good.

Give Cornerstone a call, they had some good looking small-ish kilns which had both a bead door and the entire front would open for about $700-ish. And they're in stock.

I think paragon has great customer service. I chose them because they are local.

However, take me real seriously on this, if you go paragon, DO NOT GET THE BALL GROOVE STYLE ELEMENT TRACK! My coil broke two weeks ago. Super easy to get the part, affordable to overnight ship, FUCKING NIGHTMARE GETTING THAT THING OUT! It wasn't a walk in the park getting the new one in either. Getting the old one out requires using ring pliers to spread the coil, needle nose to pull it down and wire cutters to snip it in to tiny two inch segments that still give you hell in the corners.

I spent an hour on the phone with Pam from the glasshive, she was very nice patient and knowledgeable. I ended up getting a custom kiln. 27 inches wide , 9 inches deep and 12 in. Tall. It has an adjustable rod rest , a 1 in. And a 3 inch punty door. 220. For 1400, I think that's an awesome deal.

my room mate had a bluebird and then shipped him a new element with no packing peanuts or wrap of any kindd and it showed up in 2 pieces (since it was encased in kiln brick?)

Ya mine should be here this week form the glass hive. punty door, gull door, rod rest, and 12 wide 10 tall 10 deep for 1200..good deal but there updates are probably less then accurate, at least so far
