Here a couple more for the exchange. I am having trouble taking a pic of the vortex, it goes too deep or something I just can't get the spiral to show up, oh well, it's still there lol. both are just under two inches.

Here is my next marble for the exchange. It is a two in fumed vortex with planets. I think the person who gets this will really like it. I used a very dark translucnet blue so that inside without a lighht on it it looks like a solid blue backing with dot. If you put a light behind it though it illuminates the inside vortex blue. I wish I could show it in a picture, iyt just won't turn out.

Hi everyone. I wanted to get your thoughts on what I wanted to enter into the marble swap. Because I use soft glass, my marbles won't be as large as you who use Boro. So I wanted to send you 3 of my marbles for each person on my give to list instead of trying to make large marbles out of the glass I have and sending one. Below is a picture of what I have been working on for the past 2 weeks. These are made from Kugler German soft glass. I tried to get an organic look (Earth tones) to the marbles using both reactive and non lead glass rods. They are about 3/4" in diameter.

What I need to know is will this be ok with you to go ahead and send in these marbles for the swap. If not, let me know now so I can make one marble instead.

    Thanks

Sorting marbles for this exchange is a nightmare! Imagine the number of people times the number of marbles....could be 420 marbles to swap. Now, don't get me wrong....it is a very nice and beautiful nightmare, but still a very daunting task. Adding another factor, multiple marbles for one, would add to the difficulty. If only one person does it, I think it would be okay, but I can see it getting out of hand. Rich, I love your marbles and treasure the one I received in the exchange last year and would love to get another one this year....no matter the size.......remember.......they say "size doesn't matter"

Rich, I already see one that I want.

I am all for doing what you say, however I will second the poster above me that says size does not matter. Those marbles have a classic look that is quite honestly difficult for me to achieve in boro. The only soft glass marbles I have tried to make have typically going through a rapid anneal cycle in the water bucket....

    You guys are SO nice!

I will package a 3-group marble set times 12 packages for the swap so it will be easy to keep them accounted for.

Andrew - you made me laugh! Love the quick anneal cycle action! To make these marbles I used a white base glass and applied the two types of glass and used a blending technique I am working on to get the "swirl" type patterns. Using soft glass does make it a lot easier as I don't have to power up the heat for the glass to melt to start with and keep it burning SO hot to get the glass to move.

There are good things about both soft glass and Boro and there are also bad things about both when working the glass in the flame. I have made Boro marbles but prefer soft glass marbles. For me, it's a balance of keeping the glass hot enough to work verses being too cold to thermal shock - I love this challenge!

Lysa - if more than myself send multiple marbles, the keeping things straight will be easy IF the person bundles package of marbles grouped together. Holding the bundle would be the same as holding one marble - kinda.

I wish I had a machine!!!!! Just think of all the trouble I'd get into! My wife would kick me out of the house...lol.

The exchange marbles are made on my torch in the garage - come over and I'll show you!

I used Kugler glass rods for these.

Being retired, I have tons of time to torch. When I make 3/4" marbles, I usually spend 5 hours (with breaks) and get about 40 marbles completed. I use my calipers on the white base glass then add color. Making these, I spent 2 weeks totally because I made other marbles along with these but I used Morano glass instead of Kugler. Both are soft glass but Kugker is 96 and Morano is 104, Looking at the pictures of other great marbles that have been posted, I assume they most all are made using Boro.

Sorry everyone, I am going to have to withdraw from the exchange. Work has been busier than normal and I will not have the time to complete my marble entries.

Bummed I won't be a part of it, but ill keep an eye out for the next one!

Entries so far look great. Best wishes to all involved.
