    Learn Glassified Trolling

Id like to petition the moderators of the pot to enact an anti-trolling policy in the glassifieds, and helping to remove troll posts. For at least a year now I've noticed a huge uptick in the amount of troll posts in peoples ad threads, which to me is below my standard for melting pot members. Most of these trollposts seem to be coming from newer members and people that aren't posting anything helpful anywhere else.

Questions are understandable, but when it gets to the point where your just harassing and insulting someone in their own sale thread, thats some bullshit. Takes a real loser to have nothing better to do than post negative comments in a sale thread of something they don't even have interest in. If a sale seems suspicious and you want to ask a question to solve your suspicions thats one thing, but to bitch about the price of something you arent even shopping for? Get a life. PMing questions is also classy, as you aren't cluttering up someones sale thread.

Its just getting a little less respectful around here is all.

Some other sites have it setup where you cannot access the classifieds until a certain number of days and posts have been met. Cuts down on the spam accounts where people sell equipment with a fresh account, which we have seen a lot of that recently.

I have personally kept my participation limited because of the trolling in there.

Thanks for bringing this up Alien. I think it's a great point.

I would agree with you man. It does get annoying. We try to remove it when we find it (without removing too much that might be helpful information for a seller or buyer, but that still managed to upset someone), but sometimes stuff slips through the cracks.

However, anyone can help. The little triangular sign below each post (next to where you can rep or infract a person) is the report button. This allows you to report a post to the staff. You fill out a quick little form letting us know what the issue is (so don't leave the form blank, as we need to know why there is an issue), and then once you hit submit, it sends an email to all staff alerting us to the issue. It doesn't infract the poster, and it doesn't even alert them to the fact that a post has been reported. It just allows us to see that there is an issue, and if it requires action, to take it. Usually unless it's late at night (and still then, someone may still be up), once we get a reported post, we're on it within a few hours.

So that is a starting point. I'll personally try to be more mindful of the glassifieds, but seriously, if you see a post that you think it munging up a glassified, and it's just trolling (I say that because sometimes people phrase good questions in poor ways, so be mindful of that), by all means, let us know.

+1 I totally agree theres the entire rest of the forum for people to screw around and be disrespectful or whatever else they want to say but the glassifieds should be strictly business

Maybe you should modify "Classifieds Etiquette and information on using this forum" to say negotiating price is considered trolling. Or just disable forum posts and only allow PMs. (helpful suggestion).

That is definitely a helpful suggestion Dave. One thing that I think bears noting is that it was not the seller whose thread you were posting in last night who posted about glassifieds trolling. It was a completely separate party, one whose been with this site for many years, and cares about the long term quality of this site. They also did not specifically call out the thread you were posting in. They said it in general, that it had happened in multiple threads lately. So I don't think anyone was calling you out personally. It's been an issue around here a lot lately. I guess in looking at your posts, I could see where that could be considered a negotiation tactic. Some would also consider it to be rude and not adding to the conversation.

I also am interested in the long term stability and well being of this site, and in looking at your posts, I didn't see what they added to the conversation (as the resale value of a GTT has been well established prior to yesterday), so the posts were pulled in order to clean up the conversation. If you feel that I've erred on the wrong side, I'd be happy to talk with you about it more. When you have the time, send me a PM explaining how you would like to see things handled differently in the future, and I promise I'll take your points under advisement.

If you see a used GTT thats too close to the retail price and you dont think its a good deal, why dont you just go pay a few $ more and get one that is actually brand new? oh wait, because they're rarely in stock. if you want the new price to be paid only for a new torch, be prepared to wait. If you want a torch thats available now, be prepared to pay the asking price, or find another torch. surely you dont think glass torches are exempt from basic supply and demand?

its not a negotiation tactic to talk shit saying that you can buy one brand new from the company for the same price.

real negotiation tactics are offering your said price. and from there either it is accepted, declined, or re-offered.
it is trolling when you constantly hound someone over a thread on the internet. did your mom not pay you enough attention ?

when in fact there is alot more being offered for sale than just the torch. i sell gtts sell all day for $20 under brand new retail price. mine is brand new and only used for an hour. and im offering 2 sets of hoses. y clamps and a couple large 44x4 heavy wall tubes for $50 more than the torch cost alone.

thanks to the people who actually get it . thanks to the mods for stepping up the site.
to those of you like davek who only want to run your mouth you should taking a running leap off a tall bridge .

    Sad Re: Glassified Trolling

Usually threads like this amuse me, gives me something to read, but this one for some reason bums me out. It seems like this wouldn't have been going on around here 5 years ago. Seems people were a lot nicer, or walked away from the computer and cooled down before typing responses back when I used to lurk around here.

Thank you role and I stand alone , for showing us just what this thread is all about . Even If I only read the first three words of each post before I knew It was time to move on from high school .

I did not know that the gtt torch that was priced yesterday , was higher than it is new. Until it was posted . Thank you for pointing that out . That very same model was bought and mailed to a member in a week , not too long to wait , and this just happened . ( not all gtt models are as hard to get. )

I know some one looking for that torch , I did not tell them after I read it was over the normal price.
Thank you for not wasting my , and my friends time . I learned something from that "troll "post about price, And saw no harm .

I see people post the best deals , and best stuff , and only have one post . It would be a shame if normal people that don't live on the pot ,could not post stuff for sale. Just because people can't keep there mouth closed .

Just spent $2000 with my friend to get a lightly used mirage. Worth every penny. The value of a GTT is whatever a capable person can make on it.

yes... you can block people, it was often pointed out when people suggested banning funksizzle for his excessive annoyance...which wasn't ban worthy. although, he's banned now.

and I think icarus hit the nail on the head. At the very most, there are maybe 2 fucks being given in this stupid arguement...both of you are trying to prove how little you care about something from the past.

AND, I agree, I have often gotten involved in some stupid bull shit, and then quickly realized it was a glassifieds and edited it out simply because of that. it'd be great if people could keep it out of classifieds, one way or the other. granted, pointing out things can be helpful. I posted in glassifieds looking for a major/minor over a year ago, and a bunch of people steered me towards a midrange plus, which was obviously the right decision.
