Default Charity Flameworking Cooperative at Madison Glassroots 2013

    GLASSROOTS GUILD PRESENTS:

The First Annual Charity Flameworking Cooperative

With much thought and discussion, we have decided to change our plans for this years live glassworking event at the Madison show this October. Instead of a flame-off, we are going to open up the torches to artists and exhibitors who would like to make a piece for charity. In doing so, we hope to create a more community feel with less pressure of competition, while giving back to a local business in the Madison area.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 for the Second Harvest Food Bank.

This flameworking event is the first of many and is the kickstart to a larger idea we are in the process of putting into fruition.

In the past many of our exhibitors have expressed interest in torch time during the show and we are pleased to be able to finally offer it up! This is a great time to jump up there and showcase exactly what you have available for purchase at your booth. Jenny Newtson (jenny@taglass.com) with be on the mic and we strongly encourage you to utilize this...have her say a few words, announce your name and booth number, and what you are demonstrating up there...Promote yourself!! Exhibtors are more than welcome to bring signage with your name and booth number to place in front of your torch so buyers and fellow artists know where to find you and your work.

This is also an opportunity for non-vending artists who are attending the show to get involved.

If you are interested in participating, please email Allison: allison@glassrootsartshow.com

We are open to any ideas on how we can make this event successful, fun, and workable for everyone so let us know what you think!!

    Format....

We will have 10 torches broken up into five 2-person stations with 2 hour time slots available to those who would like to participate. Along with the five working stations, Carlisle and Nortel, will be joining us at a sixth station, where they will each be setting up a torch for testing and demonstrations.

Team are welcome to participate. We are asking everyone to come with prepped work so you can simply assemble or put the finishing touches on your piece. This will allow more people to work and more pieces to be finished.

Demonstrations of specific techniques are also welcomed.

We are also pleased to announce the inclusion of live crucible pulls this year featuring one color pot each from Glass Alchemy, Northstar, and Trautman Art Glass.

We will be posting a working schedule on our website and will be updating it from now until the show. Click here to view the torch schedule.

    Auction...

All finished work will be displayed during the show for viewing. We will have a booth set up at the show dedicated to the the finished and donated pieces.

On Wednesday October 16th, we will be holding a live auction at 3pm of the high end pieces finished on Monday and Tuesday. We will also have work for sale throughout the show, and at the after hours events.

We have some great raffles planned all week that include all sorts of glassworking supplies.

    Donate...

If you are unable to attend the show but would like help us reach our goal, we are accepting donated items shipped to our office. If you are attending the show, and would like to donate a piece, please drop it off at the Registration booth when you arrive.
