Default Hey All! Looking for Lampwork classes in Virginia.

    Hello fellow torchers,

I've been doing glass for about a year or so regularly and have a lot of the basic covered. Now I'm trying to branch out to particulars and was hoping to locate someone to teach me. I'm based out of Roanoke, Virginia and I've had some difficulty finding anyone willing to teach in person. Was hoping someone here might know who/where I can go to. I have done mostly soft glass but I have done a bit of boro as well just trying to get the basics down and understand the differences between the COE. I would like to try to do more boro and having someone with more experience guiding me would be a huge help as well as a time saver. Any assistance is appreciated.

I've attached some images just to show where I'm at with my technique.

    Shawn

Looks like you have a nice setup and are off to a great start. This place and youtube are what got me where I am today. I havnt found any "teachers" around here that do classes, but I have found a couple local guys that have answered questions and whatnot. Good luck man.

I know The Heat Base offered beginner classes last summer.

The class is geared to match the skill of the students so if you've already got your foot in the door with glass we can show you the next steps.

Cost is $300 and gets you everything you need to get your skills together.

for questions and registration call me at 908-458-6624 or email us at info@theheatbase.com

    Thanks!

Yeah, I called the heat base last week and apparently they closed in October of last year due to lack of interest and leasing fees for the building they were renting.

Anything in particular you can recommend? I have watched all of Revere's stuff and a bunch of random video tutorials. I'm also a part of the torchtalk group on facebook and I try to attend those webchats weekly. Seems like most people I see who have gotten to phenomenal level have done so working closely with someone else knowledgeable. I can continue on my own with trial and error but having someone that knows to say "you know there is an easier way to do that" would be such a huge help.

Well the guy I used to go see moving away, so im kinda on my own again. You could check a local shop and see if they get glass from local artists.
