Man, I've been slacking on this thread. I got a couple questions if anyone can point me in the right direction. How are you guys getting these super opaque fume colors? Ive gotten a few to come out like that but most of mine look translucent. Im not sure if its an issue with blowing the bubble too thin, if I'm not using enough fume, if I'm not flame striking enough, or how hot/cold the blank is when applying. Also kinda of confused about flame striking gold? Here are a couple better(more opaque) ones I've done.

This is one of the ones I've been more unhappy with, although not terrible.

    Default Fume Shots...

Man I'm sittin here trying to do the opposite.

The solid stuff is going to be mostly silver, the more pure gold seems to come out more translucent, although a very heavy gold fume with the right reg settings can get you a nice thick orange/brown gold. The further you bake in the silver the more "opaque" (white) it should turn. It's a very fine line between too much and not enough that I'm trying to figure out. Flame chemistry will have a lot to do with your resulting color. The more propane I use the more opaque I get. That includes after it is already trapped under clear.

Flame striking silver is easier again because the gold is finer/more pure (I think?) silver seems to grow visibly while gold striking is going to be very subtle change. I hope this helps.

I adjusted my regs to 40 oxy and 8 propane and I've noticed I'm getting some very interesting white/Aqua out of my silver. It's not mixing with the gold as well to get all them greens I'm used to getting. I'll probably turn back down to the 20-25/8 range.

Sooooo many variables. You can keep striking to get it more opaque, but you can over strike and it can muddy up... Fun stuff !!
Nah, nah. See, I meant to do that.

yeah I might go snap better pictures of those first two, and check my reg pressures. I think it might also have to do with how thin the bubble is stretched post fuming, or maybe working too close to the face and burning it off, at least for me.

i tend to do gold, then silver for better color mix... not sure the logic behind it. different orders definitely produce different effects, i have had most success with heavy gold (make it pink/purple) then a QUICK pass through with silver maybe half a second. just wave the tube in front real quickly haha should be kinda clear/nicotene color no sheen. some will flash with a propane flame, i usually dont let it touch propane til im done.

Ehh maybe it was gold before the silver haha idk, this one looks more like it was the silver first

But I was alternating my pallets and I can't remember what order they all came out in cause I made five and switched it up every other.

Those look awesome, I wanna figure that chaos tech out. I think gold before silver tends to trap the gold a little more, making it harder to burn off? but I've also heard silver before gold helps the gold stick. I don't have a problem with either sticking on their own though.

Yeah you get more of a pure gold color if you put the gold first and lay some lines then put silver and lay lines. There is a flame setting on a gtt that can vaporize my gold bb in like less than 10 pendants it's crazy how much it vaporizes it lol.

Oh and for chaos I see a lot of people say just lay lines and fold it and twist it up and whatever but I do a specific method every time. I do lines on a fumed lolly pop, fold it over to make a taco, twist it horizontally, then take the handle off the end and do a fulcrum mix, and then push the lense on the front. Makes a nice swirl just don't over twist it it makes the lines looks skinny (unless that's the look you like)

recent fume cabs for homie to wire wrap i like gold first to ensure i dont blast any silver fume off i fume gold in a pretty driving oxyidizing flame and could take the silver off easy, its also easier for me to see how much gold is on there is so damn expensive compared to silver got 20$ and it was just 2 little nuggets. i can tell they will last me a little while still you dont really use much even when getting that deep pink purple from a heavy coat like pual was talking about. the honeycomb is all silver getting there but still not what im going for trying to get on that safo level it just takes playing with been messing with it alot lately going of that leebo advice thread with the ratio of gold to silver for different colors trying to get that full spectrum

Looking dope jxbey. I found a flame paradigm that had been going through my gold like freaking mad. Does anyone have any tips on making smaller beads? I buy the beads and most of them come in too large I'm not really sure how to save materials when I'm using a huge bead. It will drop onto my bench while hot and turn into a million smaller ones, but then I'm playing hunt the gold. I've been picking them up off my bench as I go its depressing.

    Thanks in advance.

HerbChambers, Are you using clear for the dots? Maybe try using cobalt or a darker color to lay your dots down so the fume isn't so transparent, and shows up better.

Have you tried pressing the gold out into a party and cutting it in half?

    ive been using casting grain.
i just smash a grain flat with a hammer, its pretty soft.
then i cut each patty into four quarters.
a gram of gold is usually 4 of these bb sized grains,
so i get to load up the gold fuming rod 16 times per gram.
thats about $4 each time at 60-65 per gram. i think i get about 5-10 peices fumed before needing a reload.
I just got some new gold yesterday from rio grande and it was 65 for about 1.5 grams.
