Were either of these zenits dropped or something? It looks like the guard is touching the head on both of them...

The guard on most 40's will have just enough play that the guard can by pushed onto the top of the barrel. Or at least out of alignment.

Very common.

This torch does have a lot of repair material where the body, and top black o2 limiter knob meet.

The guard is the last thing to really worry about.
