Pre mix torch: A torch in which the oxidizing and fuel gases are mixed in a chamber prior to exiting the face of the torch and undergoing combustion. These types of torches are commonly used in welding. Pre-mix torches must have flashback arrestors, and or check valves to prevent the ignited gases from traveling back to the tanks.
== Examples ==

National/premier industres - 3a/3b hand torchs, rider torch , and prmix 8m adaptor.

Smith - little torches, cutting torches

Hoke - hand torches

Carlise- center fire of most 2 stage torches, hand torches

Nortel - unitorch , various hand torches , and rider option on over under fire torches.

Many ribbon and ring burners are also pre-mixes.

Surface mix torches provide more complete combustion of the gases than a pre-mix torch, which allows for a better flame atmosphere. The atmosphere of a surface mix flame is more suitable for use with most colored glasses than a pre-mix torch. Surface mix torches do not require a flashback arrestor or check valves like pre-mix torches do.
''also: Double Blown, Quad Blown''

Refers to a non-exsistant technique handed down from one generation of pipe makers to the next. Often encountered when a novice pipe maker goes out to sell his wares for the first time. Many shop owners, wanting to sound knowledgable, will ask if the work is [[Triple Blown]]

Likewise, many unscrupilous glass blowers and sellers will represent thier work as being Triple Blown so as to confuse or trick the buyers into thinking their work is something better than ordinary glass.

Some people have suggested that Triple Blown is a real technique, offering suggestions from the absurd to the plausible. Current research being done at MIT and Carnigie Melon University suggests however, that Triple Blown is nothing more than marketing speak for thick, properly annealed, inside out work.
