The pontil takes the expanded glass from the blowing iron so the top can be finished. The metal rods or tubes used to hold, inflate and work a glass object during its hot manufacture. Additionally, it can gather added glass from the furnace as needed. A blow pipe can be used as a pontil during finishing.
