Stiegel Glass

The German immigrant Henry William Steigel came to Philadelphia, Pa., in 1750. Stiegel had a long affiliation with the Stedmans. Steigel began trying out glass making in 1763 at the Elizabeth Furnace. In 1865 he started a factory at the town he had laid out, Manheim. Later in 1769 he started a second factory. Production was mainly bottles and window glass. Steigel glass in know for its clear and colored wares that were produced in the Bristol blowing method.
