Brass doesn't break as easily as graphite, and graphite chips and wears down when brass doesn't.
How much is shipping?
Re: **HUGE** DHG Winter Tool Sale
Yes it has more duribility for sure but it also is a personal preferance at times as well. I use bith graphite and brass but prefer the brass for the weight and longevity of the tool. Shipping is 6.00 priority mail in the US and priced accordingly to other countries. Hope this helps.
Re: **HUGE** DHG Winter Tool Sale
These tools kick ass, I have a bunch of them. The biggest difference between graphite and brass is the fact that you can't really put your brass tools in the fire. I also think I get a much thicker bowl when using brass bowl pushes.
Re: **HUGE** DHG Winter Tool Sale
I have a 14mm brass joint shaping tool and if Im not quick enough the handle gets way to hot to hold in my hand and then i have to use a male joint with beeswax to get a nice fit or wait for the tool to cool down
Re: **HUGE** DHG Winter Tool Sale
If you are not quick enough? I have not used this tool, so im not really endorsing it, but id like to give it a shot. However, i currently ream out my tubing to get it to the approximate taper (just a bit bigger) then i heat it all up and marver it around a GonG holding, or in this case, shaping tool...I would still use a real ground joint to test it though as the holders always have felt slippery. how long are u using this for at a time? how much time is it spending in the molten glass to get that hot? how much if any time are u spending in the flame? i didnt think this would exactly be too big of an issue after u get the proper process down..
Re: **HUGE** DHG Winter Tool Sale
Jim Oshea, If the brass handle on the tool is getting too hot to touch you are working way more than you ever should in the flame. Spend a little more time with your regular brass or graphite reamers getting your piece more to your desired shape before using the OG tool to finalize your shape and fit. I use mine on a daily basis and have never had to put my tool down due too it being too hot to hold. Bees wax the tool after each joint shaping and I always have a bees waxed male joint on hand too double check that final fit after the OG shape to insure it is complete. Hope this helps.

Re: **HUGE** DHG Winter Tool Sale
you should create a long tapered octagonal reamer with notches marking approximately where the 14mm and 18mm fittings belong, sort of a precourser to the GonG shaping tool which is more like a mold really...would be a nice set, notched reamer and 2 gong tools...id buy it!

Thanks, i never put the brass in the flame though and i do everything you say. I just started flameworking this year so im not the quickest but i am getting better. sometimes if i dont get it to fit perfect the first time i can feel the heat traveling up the handle when i go to use it again. I probably just need to practice more.
Re: **HUGE** DHG Winter Tool Sale
Excellent quality tools! Got a 19mm joint shaping tool. Working with it today, trying to get the hang of using it. Some how to videos on your joint shaping tools would be an excellent resource, probably good advertisement too.
Re: **HUGE** DHG Winter Tool Sale
Love the joint shaping tool! Its a game changer for sure. Can you make a brass female for making male joints?

Re: **HUGE** DHG Winter Tool Sale
Do the brass gong holders suck out the heat of the glass like graphite ones do?
Re: **HUGE** DHG Winter Tool Sale
Wait.. Nevermind, read that wrong.
