    Default "Glass ISN'T a liquid."

I came across this through a comment on Reddit. Interesting article that contradicts what i've read elsewhere. Glass: Liquid or Solid

The whole glass is a liquid thing is definitely more of an urban legend than a fact. In scientific circles this has long been understood, but in layman's terms it's been spread around by a lot of old-schoolers because it's really interesting, and even though it's not true, it FEELS like it should be true.

I remember being taught that glass is a supercooled liquid in either Jr High or High School science class, and only later in life learning that was untrue, after I started getting interested in glass as a medium.

And Aaron, well played, sir. Well played.

The question is too vague. The state of matter glass assumes depends on the temperature, freezing point and melting point and the temperature determines its' state.

glass never takes true solid state, only amorphous solid when cooled, however unlike other amorphous solids it does take liquid state when heated.

Here is a crazy article I found a while back about scientists melting glass by freezing it.

they used to think pitch was a solid too. http://geeks.thedailywh.at/2012/01/2...nt-of-the-day/

both glass and pitch will flow down given enough time

Although I really love pitch because it's awesome for certain medieval applications, such as lobbing burning balls of it over walls with a trebuchet, I really have to go lie down now.
This statement, as it stands in relation to glass, just hurt my brain and I feel 12% dumber now because my saving throw against "random +1" failed.

What my understanding from reading and talking with peeps, glass IS in, any form, solid or "liquid ", is by definition, amorphous.

ya know... I used to live in a house as a kid that was well over 200 years old, and the windows were wavy. My cousin always told me it's because glass flowed with gravity over time. Never really questioned it until now. After a little more thought...

In the olden days when they put the windows together, they would put the thick side towards the bottom. The windows were wavy when they put them in, not like they had all the good clear we get today.

In Bandu's Guide to Contemporary Lampworking Vol 1, he describes glass as a liquid due to its molecular structure, even made a reference to egyptian glass being found naturally slumped because of time, is this not correct? Now I'm confused.....
