Default smoke bomb test, I wanna hear your thoughts!!!

Here is the video from a smoke bomb test I did in the mobile shop. The smoke bomb rolled half way and started shooting back words. All the smoke appeared to go right out but there was a smokey haze in my shop after word. What do yall think? the shop is only 8x8 and like 7 foot high so may have been alot of smoke for small area, but would have rather in been completely clear.

Yeah, I'd say that vent is a little on the weak side. The smoke did evacuate however the majority of it was pushed up by the velocity of the smoke bomb. Also, your bench is a little narrow due to the lack of interior space so your torch is going to end up being back more like where the bomb rotated so your test was actually pretty accurate. You also don't appear to have any other fans running. Unless your going to stay in a cold climate, your shop is going to get hot and you'll probably have some fans on you to keep cool. You need to factor these in with your smoke test. Did you have the door to the camper open during your test? If not, where is your make up air coming from? I would recommend upping the CFM of the fan if possible. If not, at least set your torch up on something to get it as close to the fan if possible. I also wouldn't recommend using any powders or heavy fuming with your current set up.

    ..just my thoughts

Also keep in mind you as a fleshy being create a dead spot in air flowing near the torch, so if the makeup air was behind you, you'd disrupt the flow.

I would call that a large FAIL when it comes to ventilation. Just imagine the green smoke is poisonous vapor? Cant you taste the funk in the air while working? how much intake air do you have comming in?

Also, do the smoke bomb test with your torch running, then place the smoke bomb in front and watch how the thrust from the torch changes the distribution of green death vapors.

air & vent might be ok but the hood needs some work. my understanding is the hood should capture the exhaust, yours is kind of deflecting it. i would try taking the thing with your posters on it and angle it the opposite way, instead of the smoke going up and away into the room it should be going up and towards the fan, know what i mean?

also eliminate the shelf against the wall under the fan, on the back wall of your workspace, it should be a clear trip for the air up and out, the right angle is going to screw up the airflow.

That board is there to direct the airflow since the fan is actually directly above my head when I work since that is where there was a vent hole in the ceiling all ready, and used to pull smoke around my head, the cabinets cant really come out, well they could prol but they are factory sealed in and wanted to avoid it.

Here is a link to my mobile shop thread with pics and other info about ventialtion and whats been tried and what not.

Ventilation seems to work great with incense as smoke source!

It seems like if you lower the thing hanging just a little bit more it will catch way more of the smoke. Is there any potential for sourcing a more powerful fan?

i looked at your pictures and venting out the top is not a good choice. i would take out the cabinets and cut a hole for your fan on the side of the trailer. then build a proper hood/enclosure and go from there. that is your cheapest and best alternative as i see it.

The issue he is going to have with that is losing the ability to fold up the workbench and store their motorcycles. You could use an attic fan that would only stick out on the outside of the vehicle and still allow you to fold the bench up. You could even make removable side panels to help box it in. I agree though that venting out the side is going to be his best option

Its a in my opinion expensive RV so people advised against it, but I thought it was best Idea too. No auto body or RV shops that I called will do it though. I cant talk myself into cutting a hole into the side of my RV though.

What I thought too! but advised against doin that and as I said above no one will! so hmmm.... I even have a auto shutter for the outside that I bought that opens when Fan turned on. But no one that I called will install that in a RV. I considered it really I did but cant bring myself to hack a hole in the wall of my RV. I have instructions on how to do it though ?? I duno kinda bummed now

I think step one is going to be lowering that hanging thing a bit. Step 2 is going to be getting a stronger fan. A duct of some sort coming down from your fan would help as well, but would make folding the work bench up a bit of a hassle.
