it looks like you're coil potting your encalmo's. i like doing it that way too but i've noticed that any unevenness in the thickness of the coil will shift the encalmo lines. you also see the areas where the cadmiums got really hot and shifted color. these issues can be avoided (if you desire) by making a series of different colored sections and marrying them with welds. takes a bit longer unless you do a bunch at a time but it's cleaner looking imo.

i know, it does look like that, but the only one i did like that was the bell. its my first attempt at encalmo, i found it really hard to get nice sections.

making a series of different colored sections, if you mean 8 different solid colored tube pulls? thats what i did. i just need to practice more i guess. i wasn't that happy with my results really. oh well. i'll try more!

i do not have a pair of shears, but i think i see what you mean, instead of blowing each tube section tip out and and reaming it to fit to to join, instead shear em off and ream em out and join that way? nicer joins, easier to get no lines?

    What? No diamond shears!!!

If you can catch a demo or a video on using the diamond shears for encalmo you will pick it up quickly.

Do you know Mat Escookie (not even close to correct spelling)? I bet on the MP somewhere is a vid link to the technique you want.

I hope you like this tech and do more. Looks great and a good break from line work.

i wish i could take credit, but most of my coolest pieces so far have been requests, such as that encalmo one. but that gives me enough creative outlet i dont have time to worry about coming up with my own as much. i get asked to do something, then go cool that sounds neat, i never tried that before i got pushed into doing 50 x 5 tube pulls with ~34 lines of color by requests to make curves to match others pieces. another form of pushing me to advance a bit without me having to find the incentive. i made a double double rainbow tube pull last night, lol.. two double rainbows with two black strips.
