I'm pretty "whatever" about this idea, but you kinda lost me with this:
if in the main page of each category you had some 'likes' advertised (maybe even as links)
I'm not a fan of that part.
Also, while I can see the appeal of particularly helpful info jumping off the page and into your eyeballs, I'm not getting the logistics of the whole "like" system. What's to differentiate between one person "liking" it and a hundred? Keep track with a counter? I'd rather not see this place become a "glass reddit," where users are posting just to watch the numbers next to their posts climb.
And as far as the boro-pedia thing goes; you know we have a wiki, right? And a search engine?
EDIT: Something I thought about in the past (but probably never mentioned):
On each user's control panel is a list of all the posts of theirs that have been repped. That's nice and all, but it would be more useful (and maybe alleviate this "like" issue as well) if you could also see a list of all the posts you've repped.
