Everyone here has had big dreams. You got some really good advice but you dont know how to be humble and realize people aren't trying to put you down. You know a million times less about glass than you think no matter how big of a glass head you claim to be. You can't learn anything when you already know everything.
If you expect anyone to take you serious calm down a bit. No one here cares about the bravado of someone who just joined.
Not for nothin but here's a read. This is where I am all over again but this time in the glass world.

"I will just add a little example of my experiences to this thread as I see to show you what my apprenticeship entailed.
In 1976 ( aging myself here ) I met a man through a friend and we began talking . I asked the man what do you do for a living? He responded with " I'm a Goldsmith " me at the age of 16 said cool. I said I would really like to learn that trade ! His response was Who is going to teach you ? It's just not that easy now go away kid........ 3 hrs later I again expressed my desire to learn anything and everything about being a Goldsmith . Again he asked the question who is going to teach you ? Me being a little more brazen this time responded with " you are " He laughed and again said fuck off kid. The next day Mon. Morning I showed up at his shop and knocked on the door, when he answered his mouth dropped and he said yeah what do you want. I again explained that I wanted to learn anything and everything that came with becoming a Goldsmith... He laughed and said what the fuck OKAY . I just about crapped my pants !
We walked into the shop and I was enthralled by the gold the diamonds the equipment hell even the smell turned me
on . He handed me a broom and said get to work, after your done sweeping the shop you can get a bucket of soapy water and wash all the benches and table tops too ! Of course at 16 yrs old and cocky as hell I was like WTF and he explained to me in his kindest voice (right lol) if you want to learn like you say you want to you will do what I say when I say and don't ask any questions. I humbly put my tail between my legs and shut the fuck up and did what he asked.
The next 3 months of my apprenticeship was spent with more cleaning ,wiping benches and quietly watching over his shoulder . He explained to me that teaching someone was actually detrimental to his environment because his usual flow and focus was interrupted by him stopping every few seconds to explain things and showing me various techs etc. He also explained that he didn't mind as long as I kept the place clean kept my mouth shut as well as filled my daily quota of prep work so it actually wasn't costing HIM money anymore to teach me. After all I was making
$3.65 per hour or $158.60 a week net in the day lol.
To make a real real long story short I stayed with that man for the next 8 yrs , through thick and thin good and bad.
I earned his respect through my actions and my dedication to learning my craft with my full undivided attention respect and dedication. I will be honest I went through Hell but I will say one thing.
That man GAVE me a job, career a life and a future and I will always be eternally greatfull to that man for the GIFT he bestowed upon me that day in 1976 when I first knocked on his door.
I am in know way whining or crying about what I had to go through to become a Goldsmith I wouldn't trade any of it for anything. I have also gone on to teach others. he was right it does drain your energy and takes alot of your time and effort. Some students were good some not so good. Some were there for what I like to call " The Hollywood " side of being a Goldsmith. They don't see feel or know about the actual hard work , long hours, extreme dedication, burnt fingers etc etc etc that goes along with it. The guts with the glory if you will.
Like explained in earlier posts , It is not a RIGHT to have this valuable knowledge handed down from one Lamper to
another it is a GIFT an HONOR to have it passed down.
If it takes some effort and hard work on your part to get to where you want to be in this trade then do it! Invest the time ,energy , countless , thankless hours on the torch as well as the resources like many of the elders and more experienced people on this forum have had to do to get to where they are today. I honestly don't think people mind to help as long as ( stated previously) you are willing and sincere and show some respect and effort on your part to be competent enough to accept this GIFT that you are being given. I am just trying to say to the Noobs ( like me )
exactly what has been previously stated in many posts before this one listen, study, learn , and most important search all the resources of this Forum . It is all here .
Yes maybe you have to use the " advanced " potion of the search engine but dig , it is all here .
Sorry for the long winded post. This is just a little about my past experiences and my .02 on this matter.
Again not for nothing ! Just my .02
you mean you haven't had anyone teach you at thing in person.. this forum was built by people.. and that statement might come off as offensive to the those who have inadvertently shared the knowledge they acquired with you.
be proud, feel good ,. enjoy.. but then put it a broader perspective. A true critic would say your work sucks and you don't even know what good glass is yet.. but no one wants to put you down (or they themselves don't know what good work is). appreciate your cheerleaders for the feel good.. but keep in mind if they are giving you good constructive criticism.. realize it's to help, and appreciate that, otherwise they are just cheer leaders..(which there is nothing wrong with)... I love my cheerleaders.
I really hope your longevity matches your ambition, I can't wait to see your work in 3/6/12 months..
Sorry James, but MUPH is right. If you can't take criticism then don't ask for it.
James, your not in the land of the ladies anymore..(LWE). Get used to the flames, or put down the torch
who was offering the free spanking?!? hah
In all fairness to Muph, the title of this thread is "Noob pics *open fire*" so what did you expect? You even put *'s around the words open fire, Fucking *'s!!!!! Seriously my dude, stop whining like a person who Can't Understand Normal Thinking and get to work!
This place can be an angelic, dirty, little catholic school girl or a scab crusted, herpies covered, STD ridden crack whore...your ego will most often be the deciding factor. From your attitude so far i hope you don't mind burnt and dried up crack whore lips on your dick!
For a glimps into your future search for posts involving spagbob.
I'm really glad glass is your passion and we all love to discuss it in depth here. So just chill out a little soak it all in and enjoy your stay on the melting pot ;P Good luck!
I'm out you dirty little bitches!
