A diffuser is a device used to break up smoke as it travels through water. The thought being that if the smoke is made into smaller bubbles the water will filter and cool the smoke better. Some examples of diffusers are: a drop stem with either holes blown in the end or slits cut into it. A diffuser tree which breaks the smoke into smaller tubes. Honeycomb diffusers which are inserted into the water chamber. Marbles also in the bottom of a water chamber will diffuse the smoke.
