Do you have any good dichro crip? That torch with air would be oh so sweet to do some roll ups with a small chunk of color tube or what not. I love flames that size and could think of lots of stuff to do on there prep wise! pulling down stringer in bulk tight ass dicro tube pulls.

but really i cracked it like 3 times last one just before i pulled the mouth piece so its not a pretty shape but its a solid piece again..

yep you got what welders call flash burn I got it from not flipping down the mask fast when I was doing prodo welding at a factory! I would lay in bed holding to cold beers on my eyelids when they got warm I would pound them down and get a new 2 beers it hurt so bad I could not sleep tell I passed out! That sucks Crip,I had that happen to me for a few days when I first got liquid. I would spend 6-7 hours in the shop raging & when I woke up my eyes were just like that & all gritty feeling,they got white during the day,but hurt at night & when I woke up. I've been spending less time out there,to try to be healthier,I think I need better lighting though. Does anyone know if inadequate shop lighting will cause welders flash? or is it just staring into the flame for too long?

kinda tried a bowtie thingy but only got half, so what the trick after you slit it in half do you split it again off axis??

Lookin' good Crip,the cobalt & white is simple,but real sharp,nice combo.If you're using the cobalt tube,you can fume it half silver half gold & then lay lines on it with 4 or 6mm clear,that makes some nice reversals too. For the bowtie,make a reversal ball just like you do with the wig-wag reversals,but spiral it instead of wig-wagging,then tear that in half right on the terminations. It looks like on this one you maybe didn't switch axis on your spiral? But anyways,that's it,all you should have to do,except thicken & shape them up after the tear. You can also tear a wigwag reversal in half too,makes a cool butterfly bowtie pattern.

my buddy's is the one on right, i think he works way thinner than me cuz all my stuff is chunky, 1 of min weighs twice as much as his .. but his shape isn't bad.. and his fume came out nicer. but mine is gold silver mix so mine might look sick smoked..

looks like i may be using to big of stringers he makes color last lots longer than me.. but i do like the thick lines..

any one have comments on that??

I got some ap odds that was some of the best ap I ever worked. It is one of my favorite purples when worked with the perfect strike. Crip do you use hvy wall on your iso. Looks good , I just started using some 50 med for prodo it works nice and fast. Just asking cause with your new maya it seems wide and they say its cooler than other torches of its size. I get to work on a delta on occasion and the melt in on the med wall fully loaded is less than 2 min complete ready to shape. I know know why some rock out iso as there only prodo. I spend more time surface working my stuff thats in a lower pricd point. Good work and I wish I had cash I would buy you out of your maya to have a wide torch for big thin stuff. Have a liitle fun with that monster before you sell it.

and ya Jr i use 48 3.7 and 50 x 2.5 for my isos , he e and ya the new torch is the shit..

it melts them cups down fast i can close a flair now in just over a min and melt the whole damn thing down in a few more..

it is big and hot, just getting used to it, kinda hot for me cuz i rest my arms on bench, and my face is within a foot of flame all the time , but i got some kevlar sleeves and gloves for when im ragin and it helped alot ..\

im not sellin it, just seein if there was trade interest, cuz i do eventually want a nice phantom or mirage.. some day.. i dont think i need such a huge flame but i may change my mind after more work on it, cuz its gettin better and better each time..

i got bluemoon too and ap seconds, i heard seconds wernt so bad on strikin colors sence they always come out a lil dif any way, f it ill use it.. I kinda like the big fat rods too there sick..

fat rods are great for all the blow ins and outs. I rock a lot of odds and just a few seconds my rule of thumb is buy odds in bulk so you get so many types if one is bad it does not hurt. Seconds always have to be used bye someone or I try a little and then buy a load. But after working some 1st cads I will only buy first in my cad colors for sure. AND solid horns with the fats!

it gives good fume pretty much every time and its way faster

you just flip it around and repeat on the other side and you got sickie color changing

and also

on fumey two piecers that arent sectioned i like to do one big ass insideout tube and then split that to make it
it makes the two parts match more with the fume which can be hard to replicate yadig

yup the poppy, got seconds a while back and most of em were bomb jstu a few super boily ones and a bunch of really good ones i like it for red..

right on crip, things are looking like they are going well. some pointers on horns if ya dont mind... make a gather that is larger than the amount of glass that you think you need. that way when you attatch you make sure you do have enough. as the addage goes better to have more than not enough. when attching your gather to your piece kinda push into it and you will see it bulge at the base but when you pull back to start stretching your horn the bulge will taper out. As you are oulling your horn out slowly move your flame up the rod. when i make them i pul a rough outline of my horn then take my punty off and heat it an pull with twezers.

but thats just how i do it. as lavaar burton said " dont take my word for it" . this thread is cool man i was just looking at the past pages and its neat to see the differences.

Christmas poo pipes, that would be awesome. Bing cherry borostix makes a great poop if you can keep it from going green. Then again maybe a hint or two here and there would be desirable. Do a blow in, stetch it down, leave the tips pointy and make some good ripples in the outside with a little sculpting. I was thinking about doing that a few days ago. he he he...

Looking good Crip!

Here's a tip on the bottom of the cup. Before blowing it out into the cup shape, gather a bit on the end of your blank and marver it into a cone. Add a "nub" to the end of the cone and thoroughly melt in. Makes for a nice looking, professional cup, in my opinion. and it's easy to attach your stem to without distorting the cup.

Fantastic for a first try!

hell ya! Lox and a spare k crip is down town charlie brown. Full steam ahead dam nice flow piece there crip looks like you are hitting a mark as I call it. It seems the more days in a row you torch the more marks you hit quicker! I remember torching 2-3 days a week maybe 2-3 hrs each time and not getting anywhere tell I started 4-8hrs 4-6 days a week. Then once a week I learn or try a new thing. Its funny I never run out of stuff I want to try.

build a box with a duct running to it then start using powders and the look you want is right around the corner. A good bit of the killer carver sculpters use fine frits and powders .

Yes good ventalation is a must working powders. So if you are working with fans and no killer hood then a little box with its own vent you use when applying powders. There are many ways but if you have a frit tray full of powder you can heat up a point and roll it in the powder. Any that does not stick falls back or gets sucked.

I think we found mine at Home Depot - for about $15 or so. It is disposable, but I use them until they're dirty - I keep my mask in a big ziplock bag so it stays clean and dust-free until I need it.

Have you tried rolling hot glass in baking soda? I haven't done it yet myself, but saw the technique in a coupla beadmaking books - evidently the baking soda makes the glass surface matte and pitted...might be worth goofing around with to see if that might get you a look you're happy with.
